Victory on Summary Judgment: On June 8, 2015, judgment was entered on behalf of our client Cardpaymentoptions.com, Inc. Our client, an internet review site focusing upon payment processers and credit cards, was sued for trademark infringement for bidding on the Plaintiff’s keywords (International Payment Systems, LLC). We took aggressive action by filing a summary judgment in response to the Complaint based upon an argument of fair use. The Court agreed, providing our client with a victory thereby preventing hundreds of thousands of dollars in attorney fees expenditures.
North Carolina office opening: In order to serve the burgeoning North Carolina market for defamation attorneys and copyright lawyers, we’ve opened an office in Chapel Hill. The law firm provides intellectual property and defamation litigation services for the entire state with a special focus upon serving the Research Triangle community of Raleigh, Durham and Cary. Erik Syverson participates in data breach litigation roundtable: Data breach litigation attorney Erik Syverson was recently selected by California Lawyers Magazine to participate in a privacy law roundtable with a group of esteemed privacy attorneys in San Francisco. A transcript of the roundtable can be found hereto learn more. Topics discussed included the rise in data breach lawsuits, insurance issues, standing and current and future privacy legislation.
Representing victims of terror: Erik Syverson has been retained by six victims of terrorism with judgments in excess of $500 million dollars against the Islamic Republic of Iran. In a case of first impression, Erik and his team are attempting to seize Iran’s country code top level domain registry, .IR, in partial satisfaction of the judgment. The case is pending in the District Court of Washington D.C. Erik is working with Israeli non-profit Shurat-Hadin on the case.
Multi-million dollar copyright settlement: In June 2014, Erik and his team secured multi-million dollar settlement for a Swedish video game company that had sued a Chinese company in New York’s Eastern District for copying its mobile game offered on the iTunes and Google Play distribution platforms.
Victory at trial: A jury recently awarded Erik’s client, a law firm partner, $200,000 for two defamatory anonymous emails. The jury deliberated less than two hours and awarded Erik’s client, an Orange County law firm partner, punitive damages.

Hedge fund managers turn to Erik Syverson: In the wake of Bernie Madoff and similar notorious investment advisors, many individuals and competitors have taken to the Internet to smear honest and legitimate hedge fund managers and investment advisors. Erik Syverson was recently retained by a large international hedge fund to monitor and prosecute those individuals engaging in such defamatory conduct.
The Huffington Post turns to Erik Syverson for Internet law commentary: The Huffington Post has recently published a number of Internet law related legal articles authored by Erik Syverson regarding Internet class action law and Internet privacy law issues related to social networks such as Facebook.
Settlement: Erik Syverson recently negotiated a favorable settlement for his television distribution client in a contractual dispute with a third party cable provider seeking mid six figures in damages. The case, Connect International, Inc. v. Intercom Ventures, LLC, settled for less than 7 percent of the damages sought at trial by the plaintiff.
Erik Syverson obtained nationwide class action certification: Internet lawyer Erik Syverson represented victims of click fraud in the Menagerie Productions v. IAC/Interactive Corp. before the U.S. Federal Court for the Central District of California. He filed a lawsuit on behalf of advertisers on the website Citysearch.com alleging that Citysearch advertisers were charged for fraudulent and/or illegitimate pay-per-click programs. Judge Christina A. Snyder recently certified this case as a national class action.
Erik Syverson was interviewed by Fox News Channel: Attorney Syverson was interviewed about a lawsuit filed against Facebook.com alleging privacy violations of Facebook users. Mr. Syverson commented on the importance of clear and easy to understand terms and conditions in addition to privacy policies. Mr. Syverson also explained the increasing value of website user data in today’s e-commerce environment. Many marketers and advertisers covet such data, adding to its value.
Victory at trial: Erik Syverson and his team obtained a seven-figure judgment against the producers of the television drama Days of Our Lives for unpaid satellite rebroadcast copyright royalties. This important case may serve to change the manner in which television rebroadcast royalties are distributed.
Stolen websites returned: Recently, Mr. Syverson was able to obtain the return of several websites stolen from a prominent Los Angeles contractor valued at more than seven figures. The terms of the settlement are confidential.
The Daily Journal interviewed Erik Syverson: California’s most prominent legal journal interviewed Mr. Syverson regarding data encryption and safety standards practiced by e-commerce businesses. Mr. Syverson provided insight and tips as to how companies may increase the security of their consumer data in an increasingly dangerous cyber business climate.
Internet defamation judgment obtained for Forensic Case Management Services, Inc.: Mr. Syverson recently obtained a $75,000 judgment for a single defamatory Internet post appearing on Ripoff Report. The court ruled that the false and defamatory posting entitled Mr. Syverson’s client to general and special damages.
Mr. Syverson joined Los Angeles Business Group Provisors: This is a select group of noted professionals offering referral services for industry leaders and their clients. This will provide our clients with an even greater referral pool for business, insurance, banking and additional legal needs.
Favorable verdict for a corporate client: Attorney Syverson obtained a judgment on behalf of Travel Syndicate, Inc. The court ruled that Mr. Syverson’s corporate client was entitled to enforce a secured promissory note worth upwards of $500,000.
Victory at trial and on appeal: Mr. Syverson obtained a judgment on behalf of a corporate advertising client that allowed certain outdoor billboards to remain in place along Interstate 405 in southern Los Angeles County. He also secured a seven-figure defense award for attorneys’ fees expended in the case. The plaintiff, a Nissan corporate car dealership, appealed the judgment. Attorney Syverson prevailed before the Appellate Court, and the California Court of Appeals upheld both the judgment and seven-figure award of attorneys’ fees.
